Painted and Historic Churches – Tour B
Lavaca County
This is a ten-hour tour.
Visit 6 painted and historic Czech, German, Moravian, and Austrian churches in small towns south of I-10 in Lavaca County including Hallettsville, Sweet Home, Shiner, Moulton, and Moravia.
All of the churches are Catholic with one Lutheran exception.
This tour includes the oldest rural Catholic church in Texas with a congregation that dates to 1840.
Two of the other churches are on the National Register of Historic Places.
This tour’s highlight may be a pilgrimage to the Spoetzl Brewery, the makers of Shiner Beer for a tour and 4 samples.
